The Butt Enthusiast says:

Damn, I've been discovered!

According to some random twat who recently posted an LJ entry about RDV's format, I am without a doubt an ignorant weaboo and give anime fans a bad name.

It must have been my SUPER KAWAII DESU style, the cat boys in maid outfits, my frequent use of "YAOI!!!!", constant Naruto references in this comic, and my claims that I'm a Japanophile/Japanese, will go to Japan, learn the Japanese language and get published in Japan because it's obviously the only country out there, that tipped this poor, close-minded soul off.

I'm going to refrain from pointing out this person's utter and complete stupidity since it's pretty damn clear already, and instead give my readers (deserving readers) an explanation:

I rarely bother to explain why I chose to do RDV right-to-left, I usually don't WANT to explain because my reason is far more retarded than thinking right-to-left is a choice of style, and it certainly doesn't excuse it.

But....
I discussed RDV's format with a friend before I began drawing it, and decided to be more logical and do it left-to-right, except when I actually started I forgot. Yes. I forgot, and barely realized this much later, when it was too late.

It's embarrassing, especially when the same damn thing happened with Soil. I'm a right-to-left person by nature, starting at the back of books and such, NOT because I once got into reading translated comics, but because it's always been like that.

I'd go out of my way to try and break this habit (such as it is, I suppose), but to spite others, I really don't want to. It weeds out those nit-picky readers whose type of idiocy I can't stand anyway, and clearly there are a lot of people who don't seem to mind this format. One of these days I'll have to change, since contrary to popular believe, I intent to get published in either the UK or Germany, just...not yet. Paneling is hard enough already, I don't feel like focusing on it any more than I have to.

I'm surprised that no one has brought it up until now, actually, but I want to those of you who haven't given me a hard time about it.

Anyway, please remember to vote for RDV every day to get that wallpaper! :D

Spooge:

I love RDV the way it is, your style is so unique, and your story is extremely diverse (in the best way) in comparison to others.
I love, and draw, in a simpler anime style (and frequently doodle Dixie ((my catboy)) in frilly dresses), but its not like I don't applaud the artists that use more realistic styles.

Thanks!

I hope I didn't come across as though I mean that everything I mentioned (the cat boys and such) are bad. I don't, and to each his own. But, she's basing her assumptions on...what exactly? JUST the format? That to me suggests she's the one who thinks Japan is the only country out there. China, Korean, Arabia...none of those exist, apparently.

Posted by Miser Bellatrix, on 10 Feb 2008 11:06 pm

Lawl, that second little paraghraph had me laughing so hard. What a hypocrit. It sounds to me like whoever said that is being weaboo themselves, trying to school ya with their over-zealous otaku knoweledge. Im not impressed. >D

I thought 'oh fuck' out loud just as soon as I read the second panel.. Poor Conner. xD

Posted by Onyko, on 10 Feb 2008 11:42 pm

OH MY GOD BELLA WILL ROXAS EVER PAIR UP WITH SORA?!

Posted by Sluvotsky, on 10 Feb 2008 11:43 pm

@Onyoko: XD I know, right?
And at least he's getting touched in a way that isn't to violate him (one way or another). ;D

@Sluv: ...Well, seeing as how they're one and the same (pretty much), I don't see how that's possible.

But. SURE.

Posted by Miser Bellatrix, on 10 Feb 2008 11:46 pm

Dude, I don't play those videogames, I don't know these things.

YOU FUCKING JAPANOPHILES WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND ME

BAWWWWWW

Posted by Sluvotsky, on 10 Feb 2008 11:48 pm

Yes..but.. It would be much more entertaining than being shot at. xD .. For us at least.

Although, why not both? >]

Posted by Onyko, on 10 Feb 2008 11:49 pm

DON'T WORRY SLUV!
I'VE READ THAT PAIRING.

I'm actually so used to reading it left to right that it's hard for me to read otherwise. >.>
So yeah, kudos.

And screw LJ losers. :<

Posted by Remmy, on 11 Feb 2008 12:00 am

For some reason... the forth panel opened a WORLD of possibility for me. *_* it was just OH OH KIDNAPPER/KIDNAPEE SYMPATHY COME ON PUT IT IN!!

Because that's how my brain works. Just these huge, inexplicable gaps in logic. It's all good, right? :D

Posted by Rizu, on 11 Feb 2008 12:09 am

I know you said 'LJ', but...

...is this aimed at me and my deviant art rant, where I covered the same topic? o.o

And if it is, while it's something that bugs me and deters me from reading some comics, I blatantly make an exception for comics that are really good...point in question, I was really excited to see that you'd updated, since you were the most recently updated on my favourites page.

And now I feel kind of weirded out, because I feel like I've unintentionally alienated someone that I really admire =/

Posted by Ran, on 11 Feb 2008 12:45 am

XD Remmy.

I just read the perpetrator's LJ and was thus inspired to ask this question.

Posted by Sluvotsky, on 11 Feb 2008 12:53 am

You had me at Super Kawaii Desu.

Hm, well I think I had pondered over the direction of reading but...I didnt care. What does it matter? You could have us reading bottom to top, diagonal left diagonal right and I still wouldnt give a rats ass. Since when does the direction of the comic speak for the comic itself? Ergh. Anyway, dont feed off the anger fuel. Its not good for the soul.

Poor Connor's been thrown to the wolves. Oh well, I'm sure he'll be fine. He has that animalistic (and apparently animalistic isnt a word :/) quality in him to take care of himself...or at least it appears that way.

You know, one thing I like best about this comic is its diversity. Yeah. I like that a lot.

Posted by Faery Goddyss, on 11 Feb 2008 01:11 am

@Sluv: *pat*

@Onyko: Your icon rules.
...Both would be very interesting indeed.

@Remmy: And that's not the worst pairing out there, either. XD;

@Rizu: XD; Well you'll never know.... Edvar DOES swing that way.

@Ran: Not at all. I didn't even see your DA journal (I don't go to DA anymore). I'd link to the LJ though it's not really called for.
But even knowing you're peeved by the format, that doesn't alienate me at all. I'm annoyed with RDV's format myself at times, actually. But I'm really glad to know you like this despite the direction its read in. :B

@Faery: That's good. and it's also the kind of audience I'm attracting with this format, which is one of the reasons why I'm not changing it (yet). I like open-minded people, because that's what this story needs, and if someone feels that the format of a comic has nothing to do with the comic itself, then that person is more awesome than I can say. So thank you. <3

Posted by Miser Bellatrix, on 11 Feb 2008 01:21 am

It isn't so much that it has me peeved, as it is that it actually causes me physical pain. I don't know if it has something with to do with me being left handed, but when I'm forced to make myself do things backwards like reading manga (even reading manga in book form)or use my right hand for writing, I get crazy massive headaches that last for hours. I don't think it would bother me as much online if your back and forward buttons weren't in the opposite direction than what my brain demands I believe >_<

Posted by Ran, on 11 Feb 2008 01:25 am

Well, since RDV reads right to left, the buttons have to be this way, IMO. But, though it might become a bit of a mess, I can add two versions of buttons one there, one pair for right to left and the other for left to right, if you want.
Not sure if that'd work well, though. It might end up being even more confusing for people.

Posted by Miser Bellatrix, on 11 Feb 2008 01:28 am

And you know what...I've probably read those more horrible pairings.
....
I DON'T EVEN PLAY THE GAME.
/shamed

Also, I totaly meant I was used to reading Right to Left because of manga. Jeebus.
I am so dyslexic. e,e

On a completely crack related note I feel as thought the second panel should read "Dooo eet."

Posted by Remmy, on 11 Feb 2008 08:47 am

The format is fine.
Japan isn't the only country to right-to-left reading anyway. (I'm pretty sure at least)
This comic is awesome. Plain and simple.

Posted by meli-ichigo, on 11 Feb 2008 12:51 pm

This format is good. Random complainer person should shut up as they obviously has too much time on their hands and waste it with meaningless rants based on faulty information.
:)

Posted by indigorust, on 11 Feb 2008 01:30 pm

@Remmy: It's all right, I figured that's what you meant. XD Happens to the best of us.

@Meli: It isn't. :3 Chinese, Korean, Hebrew and Arabic are all right-to-left, as well. I'm sure there are more but I wouldn't know what else there is.
Thank you~

@Indigorust: Agreed~ :3

Posted by Miser Bellatrix, on 11 Feb 2008 01:43 pm

Ya know, there's nothing wrong with the rdv format at all. That guy was just ignorant. Right to left was never just for anime. I mean, most of the asian populace world-wide read books/novels/etc right to left, so yeah, I'm not seeing the problem. Besides, anyone whose ever been in a japanese comic book store can tell you that not ALL japanese comics are "anime" styled. Hmmmph..... Someone get me a bat, I think that guy needs some sense beat into him...

Love the comic btw.

Posted by Nekobaby, on 11 Feb 2008 02:18 pm

oh good LORD. I like this story and art because it IS original. And Japan isn't the only country in the world that
reads R-L, so... >>;
And who really cares which direction a comic's read in, as long as it's clear which way to read it?

Anyway, tell them to go blow themselves.

Also... the Major seems to be up shit creek o.o;;

Posted by amiko_16, on 11 Feb 2008 02:22 pm

1. Your awesome.

2. I bet them rebels wished they'd picked another hostage now. >3>

Posted by thegreatroseh, on 11 Feb 2008 06:10 pm

@Nekobaby: ;3 You make a point. And thank you~

@Amiko: Heh, not just the Major. XD I'd say all four of Noel's men are swimming upstream in shit river. XD

@Roseh: 1. You're sweet. <3
2. Yeah, I bet they wish so too.

Posted by Miser Bellatrix, on 11 Feb 2008 06:32 pm

I wish I could draw eyes like you.

Posted by Krubitt, on 12 Feb 2008 05:41 pm

x3 Thanks~

Posted by Miser Bellatrix, on 14 Feb 2008 05:41 pm

I've written and deleted much before deciding to put this: That person is a twat. Don't listen to anything they say. Your fomat is consistent and enjoyable. I like what you have to say and I like the originality of your works.

Posted by frozen_shamrocks, on 14 Feb 2008 07:25 pm

I never even think about it. I guess it's just because I'm so used to reading in whatever direction is necessary...
Even though I am American and prefer manhwa to manga. (Speaking of which, manhwa is Korean and I just thought I should let you know that Korean actually is read left to right. I'm not trying to be mean, though! -cowers-)

Posted by Ecrivon (Guest), on 15 Feb 2008 09:26 pm

@Shamrocks: :3 Thanks~

@Ecrivon: O rly? I always thought it was right to left. --I don't mind being corrected. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

Posted by Miser Bellatrix, on 16 Feb 2008 01:14 am

Every so often I start reading your comics left to right since they're pretty much normal except for the panel direction (Japanese comics are made in a way where you really couldn't forget the reading direction, naturally). It doesn't bother me, though. I mean, it's a quality comic! I'd read it even if it was diagonal bottom-left to top-right!

Posted by Senshuu, on 20 Feb 2009 05:40 am

Hmm. You really should be allowed your own styles these days without being questioned, yanno? Oh well, one of those things you can't fix.

Also, erm, I love your art and style, and your plot is immense. Srsly.

However, ah, there's a mistake on this page. On the last page, Lt. Shaul (was it? I dunno, only remember the names of characters I like), had a band-aid-like object over his cheek because of the injury Connor gave him. Now, however, he does not.

Sorry to be nitpicky, but it kinda wilts the continuity a little.

Otherwise, once again, you have a flawless, beautiful comic. :D
